Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the Humanity Shield™ different from a face shield?
The Humanity Shield™ is much more than a “face shield.” The unique patent pending design uses a clear plastic PETG shield. It differs from face shields as it has a fully integrated cloth barrier that extends down below the jawline and on the sides of the face, offering additional protection from respiratory droplets exceeding what a face shield could do alone.
What is your product made out of?
The Humanity Shield™ is made from high-quality components that are sourced in the USA. The Humanity Shield is made of a clear plastic PETG shield and attached barrier cloth made from nonwoven, spun-bond, nylon 6,6 which entraps droplets and can handle UV, cleaning agents, and other sanitizing procedures easily. The foam spacer, which keeps the shield away from face and glasses, is made of closed cell EVA foam, making this component much easier to clean and disinfect but also soft and comfortable for the wearer to the point that wearers often forget they are wearing the Humanity Shield™. The Humanity Shield™ also uses a Velcro closure, which, unlike elastic, does not stretch out after repeated use.
What are the benefits of wearing the Humanity Shield?
The Humanity Shield™ offers a number of advantages. The one of a kind patent pending design has a spunbond non-woven cloth barrier that is fully integrated with the clear PETG shield in order to prevent the spread of respiratory droplets. In addition to droplet control, the comfortable, reusable and cleanable Humanity Shield™ prevents wearers from touching their face, which is another known method of transmission. The Humanity Shield™ also allows wearers to prevent the spread of respiratory droplets, while allowing visibility of facial expressions and lip movements for speech perception, which is vital to clear communication.
Is the Humanity Shield Reusable?
Yes! With proper care our products are designed to be reused indefinitely. A great deal of research and care has gone into sourcing top quality materials to make the Humanity Shield™.
My shield arrived – why can’t I see through it?
Our shields have an opaque protective film that must be peeled off of the outside of the shield prior to use. This film ensure that your shield does not get damaged during production. To remove the film, start at one of the corner edges at the top of the shield near the foam.
What is the difference between the sizes?
Our product fits most facial structures and head sizes. The Humanity Shield™ comes in child and adult sizes. The adult size will fit a head circumference from 20″-30″ or hat sizes from 6¼ to 8+. The child size will fit a head circumference from 16″-24″ or hat sizes 6 to 7⅝.We recommend the child size for any children under the age of 8. The shield is sturdy but flexible, ensuring wearer comfort. We use Velcro for the headpiece, which does not stretch out over the lifetime of use, and maintains a comfortable fit without slipping during wear.
Is the cloth barrier removable?
No. The cloth is fully integrated with the shield portion and is not removable. We use a quick drying spunbond non-woven nylon cloth for the barrier around the shield portion, meaning it won’t take long to dry when washed with water. You can also re-sanitize the cloth barrier portion throughout the day by spritzing the shroud with liquid hand sanitizer spray if desired.
We specifically selected the our cloth because:
- It is used in medical settings, reportedly on hospital ventilators, but definitely for use on personnel.
- It is strong and won’t tear from the stitching on the shield.
- It can handle high and low temperatures without problem.
- It is able to entrap particles.
- It is specifically adept at entrapping non-polar molecules.
How do I clean the Humanity Shield?
The entire Humanity Shield™ can be easily washed with hot water and soap and hung to dry. We use a quick drying spunbond non-woven cloth for the surrounding barrier, meaning it won’t take long to dry when washed with water. You can also re-sanitize the cloth barrier portion throughout the day by spritzing the fabric barrier with liquid hand sanitizer spray if desired.
We recommend using a tissue or microfiber cloth to buff gel hand sanitizer, baby shampoo or liquid dish soap on the inside of the shield. Many wearers wear the shield for 12+ hours per day without a need to reapply anti-fog agents on the inside of the shield.
Is the Humanity Shield hot to wear?
The Humanity Shield™ is very breathable and was designed with wearer comfort in mind. It is lightweight, breathable and comfortable for multi-hour usage. The EVA foam headpiece keeps the shield far enough away from the face to avoid any pressure points or interference with glasses or oxygen.
Will the shield interfere with my glasses?
Nope! Wearers can easily don their glasses behind the Humanity Shield™. Additionally, wearing the shield will not cause your glasses to fog.
Will the Humanity Shield fog?
If you experience any fogging, we recommend using a tissue or microfiber cloth to buff a small drop of liquid dish soap, gel hand sanitizer, or baby shampoo on the inside of the shield. Many wearers wear the shield for 12+ hours per day without a need to reapply anti-fog agents to the inside of the PETG plastic portion.
Additionally, wearing the Humanity Shield™ over glasses will not cause them to fog.
What are the benefits of wearing the Humanity Shield?
Our Humanity Shield offers a number of advantages. In addition to being reusable and easily cleanable, they are comfortable to wear, they help protect portals of viral entry and prevent wearers from touching their face. The Humanity Shield also allows wearers to maintain social distancing while allowing visibility of facial expressions and lip movements for speech perception.
Will the Humanity Shield guarantee to keep me safe?
There will never be any intervention that can guarantee 100% effectiveness against the coronavirus. However, as with all other PPE, the Humanity Shield can be used as a part of a wearer’s infection control effort, in addition to social distancing and hand washing.
The clear plastic shield is 100% effective at covering the nose and mouth, preventing droplets from escaping to the front of a wearer, while the barrier cloth wraps around the sides of a wearer’s face and below the chin. This integrated assembly is an effective tool that helps prevent respiratory droplets from traveling into the air. The unique patent pending design of the Humanity Shield™ extends beyond typical face shields. The cloth is fully integrated with the PETG clear shield to provide effective respiratory droplet control that exceeds what a face shield could do alone.
